Hammer Attack Suspect Seen on Video Surveillance Turned in By His Mother

The shocking home invasion that was caught on camera last week prompted the perpetrator's own family to tip off police. Albert Lee Aleman, 19, of Donna, TX was arrested and subsequently charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a felony. HLN's Jane Velez-Mitchell covered the story on her news program 'Issues'. Surveillance footage shows a man dressed as a maintenance worker going to the door of a home on the 1300 block of West Fullerton Avenue shortly before noon on April 1. Investigators believe the perpetrator encountered a 27-year-old housekeeper at the door and tried to pull her from the house. He allegedly struck her in the head several times with a hammer. Police believe their suspect, Albert Aleman, planned to take money from the house.

Aleman was arraigned on the crime last week in a McAllen Municipal Court. If convicted of the crime, which is a 1st-degree felony, the 19-year-old could face life in prison.
